COSTA DE COCOS, XCALAK GENERAL INFORMATION

HOSTED ADVENTURE JUNE 24-JULY 2, 2016. Special price and inclusions. Email rodandreeladventures@gmail.com for details.

Each day begins very early with a full breakfast to order. Omelettes, eggs, bacon, ham, pancakes, wonderful coffee, fruit of the day, orange juice, and some really excellent hibiscus juice that is excellent. Coffee is available a bit earlier than breakfast. Times depend on sunrise, but figure 6:00 for coffee, breakfast by 7:00 at the latest. After breakfast you walk the 100 yards from your room to the panga dock for your full day of flyfishing the flats for bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, and other saltwater gamefish.
The bonefish are plentiful and are less spooky and more willing to eat than any place I have seen in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. You fish in and around Chetumal Bay almost on the border of Mexico and Belize and the options are great. Mangroves and flats that go forever await you. We saw permit every day, but permit are difficult to catch. The bones are not. Most of the tarpon are a bit of a boat ride...another half hour or so. But we also caught tarpon in the areas close to the lodge on our second saltwater flyfishing adventure to this magnificent location. This is a great bonefishing destination, an average to good permit fishing destination, and an average tarpon fishing destination.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES  COSTA DE COCOS, XCALAK
A good book, a digital camera, scuba, snorkeling, and relaxing under the palms. This is a true flyfishing paradise, but take time to chill.

FLYFISHING SEASON AT  COSTA DE COCOS, XCALAK
From December through January the weather is cooler and the water temps are the same. From February to May the water gets warmer and the flyfishing hotter. After May, the weather is very hot, and the flyfishing even hotter. Once July comes around, you have the potential for severe storms, so I suggest earlier...although the fishing does really get better the further you get into the summer months. Travel insurance can somewhat protect you from hurricanes!
