TRAVEL DOCUMENTS NEEDED AT TARPON CAYE LODGE

You will be required to provide proof of citizenship to enter Belize.  If you are a U.S. citizen then a valid passport is necessary. You may also be asked to pay a departure tax of $18.00 at the airport when leaving Belize. Departure tax is sometimes included in your international airfare. Print two copies of the page in your passport, which includes your picture, passport number, issue and expiration date. Keep one copy in your wallet or pocket and one in your luggage.  This can be very helpful entering and leaving the country if your passport is lost.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR TARPON CAYE LODGE
Fishing and Relaxing on a private island in the warm Caribbean…Perfect!! Tarpon fishing and Permit fishing in Belize
Your day goes something like the following:

Up at daybreak or before (depending on the tide) with coffee and a home-made snack before setting out for the first catch of the day. Mid-morning (because you are successfully fishing so close to camp) you can almost smell a hearty breakfast being prepared! Time to eat, rest, snorkel, kayak, or work on your gear before spending the rest of the day attempting to catch the fish of your choice. Upon returning to camp that evening and after a successful day of fishing, you take a relaxing shower before gathering with the other guests for cocktails and a delicious meal consisting of the day’s catch, perfectly prepared. After dinner you are ready for a good night’s sleep on your comfortable bed dreaming of the next day’s adventure! Imagine all of this where you are away from the impersonal and over-crowded resorts.Charlie Leslie's Tarpon Caye Lodge is a 30 minute boat cruise 15 miles east from "Mother Nature's Best Kept Secret", the Placencia Peninsula. Our specialty is fishing the tides for the Elusive Permit, the Big Tarpon and/or the Feisty Bonefish on the fly. Our passion and NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS TO HUNT AND CATCH FISH and we want our clients to be able to take full advantage of that experience. Tarpon Caye Lodge is responsible for many fly fishermen and women catching their first permit, tarpon and/or bonefish on the fly. This area, with its seemingly never ending supply of fish of all kinds, also holds excellent opportunities for bait casters, spin casters and conventional fishing in general.

We also offer fishing packages from the Lodge as well as Day Fishing Tours from the mainland and our Relaxation Package is specifically offered to those who wish to simply spend a few days on a private island in the Caribbean.

Tarpon Caye is 10 acre mangrove caye (island) just 15 miles east of Placencia, Belize in Central America and is 40 minutes away from the Placencia airfield by boat.Tarpon Caye has a deep lagoon on the West side, which is protected by tall red mangrove trees. This lagoon is one of the hottest tarpon fishing spots in Belize. This area is covered with hundreds of square miles of flats; this area is also known, by many fly fishermen (local and international), to be the "Permit Capital" of the world!

LODGE AMMENITIES AT TARPON CAYE LODGE
We have three very clean, comfortable cabins with daily maid service. We are able to accommodate 6 people comfortably. Each cabin is built on stilts over the Caribbean Sea allowing for a restful sleep while listening to the soothing sounds of the Sea and breathing it's pure and healthful Breeze.

Each cabin has:

• Tiled floors
• Semi-cathedral ceiling which helps keep cabana cool
• 2 double bed with comfortable mattresses
• Bed head lights if you wish to read a book without keeping on the main light
• Writing table and chair
• Wash basin separate from the toilet and shower area
• Private tiled showers designed with a seating bench
• Private verandah over the Caribbean Sea with deck chairs and hammock

• Built on stilts above the Caribbean Sea
• Open deck with a fantastic view and a cool hangout after a long day of fishing

Self-Sustain:

• Full running fresh water from our water storage system
• Solar system provides a 12 volt lighting system at night when the generator is turned off
• Diesel generator provides 110 electricity throughout the day, while clients are on the island

• A larger and more open area with a typical tropical thatched roof giving our clients a more spacious hang-out area is in the plans

Wireless Internet:

Water Sports:

• Kayaks and some snorkeling gear are available for exploring the beauty of the lagoon and surrounding Cayes (islands)

Guides and Staff:

• All employees are trained and licensed in order to serve our clients to the best of their abilities.

CUISINE
Dinners at the lodge usually consist of generous portions of fresh seafood including lobster, conch, shrimp or freshly caught fish (let us know if you have a special diet). Local Belizean fare such as chicken and pork with local vegetables are also on the menu.

The resident cook would be happy to prepare your favorite dish, just ask! Try the fried plantains!

You may choose to snorkel the reef just in front of your cabana and pick up some conch which the Tarpon Caye Lodge Cook will turn into a tasty “Ceviche” dish at dinner time. Snorkel past some of the large coral heads and you may be able to spot cruising tarpon in the deeper pockets of the reef or see lobsters hiding in the coral.

SEASON AT TARPON CAYE LODGE
Tarpon fishing and permit fishing in Belize is best from November through August. July through October is hurricane season, but the rest of the year is excellent.The permit fishing is more dependent on moon phases and tides than air temperature. However as the season moves from January through June, the bait grows and multiplies making the fish more active. Tarpon fishing is more consistent as they have resident fish that live right next to the lodge all year long.

HOW TO GET TO TARPON CAYE LODGE
Fly into Belize City, transfer via air to Placencia where you will be picked up and taken on a forty-minute water taxi out to Tarpon Caye Lodge. We will help you arrange everything from Belize City to the lodge.
